Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali (RA) and his shrine

By reading the inscriptions carved in the shrine of Hazrat Khanjahan (RA), some clues to his identity can be found. But the real name and hidden identity of this saint is still not known correctly.

In the said inscription his name is written as “Khane Azam Khanjahan” and “Ulugh Khanhajan”. Inscriptions in Arabic and Persian date his death on Wednesday 26 Zilhaj 863 Hijri (23 October 1459 according to opinion 24 October 1459).

“Ulugh” is a Turkish word and is a family surname. From this it can be assumed that heSimilar to a Turkish family called Ulugh. According to some writers, he came to this country as a dilsni from Arab countries in Persian opinion. During the Turko-Afghan period, the honorable title of the commander was Khan Azam.

From this it appears that he was also an army hero and was awarded the title of “Khan Azam Khan Jahan”. This great army hero and saint did not leave anything written about his identity. In folk tradition, he is known as Khan Jahan Ali (RA).

Not much is known about his personal and family life. as muchHe is known to be happily married and to have had one or more wives. But he was helpless. Researchers speculate that he was a contemporary of Sultan Ghiyasuddin Azam Shah and was probably a close friend and general of Sultan Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah of Gaur.

As the sultan’s representative, he established a large settlement in the Bagerhat region with his followers and continued to rule the state. That is why he named this region “Khalifat-e-Abad”. Khan Jahan (RA) was such a great man whose greatnessThe entire Bhati region including Bagerhat has been benefited and blessed by Gunavali.

It is said that this Mahapuramna moved from Barobazar in Jessore and built 360 mosques and dug 360 dighis all over Bhati region, inspired by human love. The mosques for worship in the region first settled by Muslims and the drinking water ponds in the salt-water Desh Bhati region appeared to the people of Apmar as a blessing from God.

It is further said that the 360 ​​awliyas who accompanied him on his arrival in this country were probably three in proportion to their number.He built 360 mosques and dug 360 dighis. At first, he lived as a ruler, but later on, religion and public service were the motto of his life.

He was a miraculously powerful Mahapuramna to the local people. Distributing food to the hungry people, digging numerous ponds to alleviate water shortages, building Rastmaghat, setting up bazaars, building countless mosques with magnificent architecture for people’s religious worship, etc.

The message of love continues to be carried in every house irrespective of caste and religion in the vast townships of the southern part of Bengal. His mausoleum is built on a high ground on the north bank of Khanjeli Dighi. The mausoleum is square in shape, measuring 42 feet by 42 feet and the wall height is 25 feet, with a dome on the roof. Inside the mausoleum is the shrine of Hazrat Khanjahan (RA) in a newly built altar. The accompanying art of Dargahs or tombs is very similar to Shatagumbaj.

In addition to the date of death, burial date, the inscription also contains Alsnah’s name, some surahs of the Qur’an.And it is written, may the blessings of Allah be upon him, etc. Every day, thousands of devotees irrespective of caste and religion from different places of the country and abroad come to visit the shrine in the hope of receiving his blessings. Besides, every year on the 25th of Agrahayan, a big fair is held in the premises of the great saint’s shrine to mark the annual Orsh Mubarak and the first full moon of the month of Chaitra.

Thousands of devotees from far and wide gather at his shrine to pay their respects during these festivals and fairs.
