Diplomats of various countries stationed in Dhaka have praised Bangladesh’s “extreme patience” for handling the tense situation peacefully on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border by “not stepping on Myanmar’s provocation”.
Acting Foreign Secretary Admiral (retd) Khorshed Alam told reporters after briefing diplomats (except ASEAN countries) on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border situation at Rashtriya Guest House Padma on Tuesday (September 20).
He said, “They have assured us that their respective countries will support Bangladesh on this issue at the United Nations.” During the briefing, Dhaka urged the diplomats to take action so that no more mortar shells or bullets from Myanmar come to this country.
Mentioning that Bangladesh will not fall into the trap of provocation by Myanmar, he further said, “We have told them that Myanmar cannot be allowed to destabilize the entire region and create obstacles to the repatriation of Rohingyas.”
The ongoing conflict between the Myanmar Army and the Arakan Army is causing panic on the Bangladesh border. Last Friday, one Rohingya was killed and five others injured in a shelling in no-man’s land. On the same day, a Bangladeshi youth, Anganthing Tangchanga, was seriously injured in a landmine explosion on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Naikhyangchari upazila of Bandarbar district.
The Myanmar helicopter that entered the border of Bangladesh was shot down.
Foreign Secretary Admiral (Retd.) Khorshed Alam said, “Myanmar has always maintained the same claim that the shells hitting Bangladesh are being fired by Myanmar’s internal rebel groups, Arakan Army and ARSA.
